Who are the Laistrygonians? Who encounters them in Greek mythology? Why do you think Riordan used them to attack Percy and Tyson?

The Laistrygonians were a tribe of gigantic cannibals. They encountered Odysseus on the seventh day of his Odyssey. We think Riordan used him to reveal to Percy that Tyson was not human, as he could withstand the fire thrown at him by the Laistrygonians.

The Laistrygonians were a race of giant cannibals. It was said they were the first inhabitants of Sicily, along with the cyclops. the hero Odysseus encountered them on his odyssey and that is where they are found in mythology. they showed up with Percy and Tyson because Tyson was a cyclops and they lived with the Laistrygonians.

In Homer's Odessey, the Laestrogonians are a race of gaint cannibals that ate most of Odysseus's men and destroyed 11 of his 12 ships only leaving him wiht one all on his way back home to ithica.
It is also said that they were the first people to live in sicily, along cyclopes.
Riordan used might have used them because they would be a worthy appoint to percy and to show him that tyson was not human.

The Laistrygonians are a tribe of huge cannibals. some people row for a week until they reach Telepylus in the land of Laistrygonians. The Laistrygonian king eats one of the scouts. The other Greeks run for the ships. The Laistrygonians smash the 11 ships that are in the harbor so they can feed on the men. Odysseus gets away and goes to another island with some of his shipmates. I think that Riordian used the Laistrygonians to attack percy and tyson because they are huge and tyson is huge and they can only be taken down by strong warriors such as Percy.

Laistrygonians giant cannibals who devoured much of Odyssey's crew as he encountered them on his journey in the Odyssey. Through the Laistrygonians attacking Percy and Tyson at Meriwether in the gym, Percy is shown that Tyson is not human as he later finds out that he is a cyclops. Tyson not only can withstand the fire from the balls the Laistrygonians through at him but the force at which they are thrown. Percy doesn't realize the total truth about Tyson until Annabeth tells him later in The Sea of Monsters.

The Laestrygonians were a tribe of giant cannibals.

In the Odyssey, they sank 11 of Odysseus' ships and ate the men on them.

In The Sea of Monsters, they attack Percy and Tyson with flaming, explosive basketballs at Percy's new school, causing them to flee to Camp Half-Blood

The lastrogonians were a race of cannibals that were encountered by Odysseus. He used this to show that Tyson was more than just a mortal but even then, he did not figure it out until they got to half-blood hill.

Laistrygonians are the monsters Percy runs into in the gym. They are a race of giant cannibals who live in the far north (Canada). Odysus runs into them in The Odyssey. I think Roirdan puts them in this book because they go through the sea of monsters and this is a small taste of what the monsters will be like.

Laistrygonians are a race of giant cannibals who live in the far north. Odysseus encoutered them once.In the "Sea of Monsters" we think that Riordan wanted them to be attcked because there are problems at camp and therefore monsters were loose everywhere. Also we think that Percy was such a threat as a hero that the monsters were making special trips just to destroy him.

The Laestrygonians are supposedly a tribe of really big cannibals.

Laestrygonians show up in the Odyssey. Odysseus encountered them once one of his men made an outcry and the Lae... started throwing rocks from cliffs and throwing spears.
Thucydides says that they were the early inhabitants of Sicily along with the cyclops.

I think Riordan used them to attack Percy and Tyson because not only does it bring more mythology into the story but because it explains the bullying and eating references.

Laestrygonians are giant savage beasts from Sicily.

In Homer's "The Odyssey", Odysseus and his men encountered them on their way back to Ithaca after their long journey. They were near an island of high cliffs when the Laestrygonians hurled rocks at Odysseus' fleet of ships. Eleven ships were destroyed, but Odysseus' ship and all of the men aboard survived the attack.

Riordan used them in his book as another reference to Greek mythology by having Percy and Tyson encounter the giant beasts while in a dodgeball game. They were yet another obstacle for Percy and his growing crew of half-bloods, satyrs, and other mythological creatures.

-Laistrygonians were magnus cannibals.

-In the Odyssey, the Laistrygonians came in contact with Obyseeus.

-They were brought about at the same time as the cyclops, which is why we think Riordan used them to show Percy that his friend, Tyson, wasn't mortal but was a cyclops which explained why he wasn't harmed by the fire.

The Laistrogonians are cannibal giants. Odysseus encounters them in The Odyssey where odysseus's men are eaten by these cannibals. We think Riordan used them to attack Percy and Tyson to contrast the cyclopes, meaning they foil Tyson's goodness. They are wide in girth and well endowed, and they portray how not all large things are of the same nature. Elaborting, they force their hot metal balls at Percy which almost kills him but Tyson comes to the rescue. He grasps them in his hands and hurls them back to their owners.

In Greek mythology, the Laistrygonians were a race of giant cannibals that Odysseus encountered in the Odyssey. He was the onlky survivor of his entire company. Riordan used this reference because Percy was one of the only ones to not be hurt by the giants.

The Laistrogonians were a race of giant cannibals who lived in the region of Mount Aetna in Silicly. In Greek Mythology Odysseus, from the book the Odyssey, enconters the Laistrogonians on his trip back to Ithaca. We believe that Riordan used these giant canicals in his book in order to expose to Percy the special 'powers' that Tyson has. Also to show that TYson is here to protect Percy and not hurt him.

They were encountered by Odysseus
To show Tyson's powers, and help Percy to realize that Tyson is not a normal person. And also to show a contrast between Percy's power's and The Laistrygonians

The Laistrogonians are depicted as a giant race of cannibals. They appear in the Odessey they eat most of Odysseus's men and destroyed 11 of his 12 ships only leaving him with only one all on his way back home to Ithica. Riordan uses them to show that Tyson is not human and can withstand fiery dodgeballs.

The Laistrygonians are a tribe of giant cannibals that are mean and destructive. Odysseus encounters them in Greek mythology and he hides his ship from them and survives. I think that Riordan uses them to attack Percy because it makes Percy think that his father has turned against him and sent his sons after Percy.
